Gene and Georgetti - Chicago Steakhouse
It's the oldest and - they say - one of the best steakhouses in Chicago, specializing - as the name suggests - in grilled meat since 1941. It was founded by Gene Michelotti, a Tuscan immigrant who came to the United States at the age of 15, and his partner Alfredo Federighi, nicknamed "Georgetti". Since their deaths, the restaurant has remained in the hands of the same family.
The restaurant, which has received awards from prestigious culinary magazines, has welcomed and continues to welcome the crème de la crème of show business - Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and, more recently, Russell Crowe and Keanu Reeves - whose autographs adorn the walls.
The menu is divided between grilled meats and Italian specialties. On the grill side, the choice of meats is endless: filet mignon, sirloin, steak, beef T-bone, pork, lamb, chicken or veal, grilled, baked or skewered...).
Italian specialties include eggplant parmigiana, chicken or veal with lemon, mussels marinara, shellfish au gratin or stuffed mushrooms, as well as an interesting selection of pastas: spaghetti, linguini, ravioli, tortellini or mostaccioli. In the cellar, a large majority of California wines from Napa Valley and a selection of Italian bottles. Ask for the selection of wines available "by the glass".
Expectations are matched by popularity. The address not only attracts tourists and the jet set, but also remains a safe bet in the eyes of the city's residents; some customers have been coming here for over 50 years! Reservations are highly recommended.
